Celebrating 100 Years of Friendship with Avilés, Spain
The City of St. Augustine cordially invites the public to join our events commemorating 100 years of friendship with our sister city, Avilés, Spain. The following events will be taking place throughout the weekend. We look forward to seeing you and sharing this historic celebration with you!
Thursday, September 5
Free Public Concert: Tejedor Bagpipe Band and Flamenco Dancers
7:00pm Lewis Auditorium, Flagler College

Friday, September 6
Official Welcome Ceremony
10:00am City Hall
Wreath-laying ceremony in front of City Hall at the statue of Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, founder of the City of St. Augustine. Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline will offer official remarks and a welcome to the official delegation visiting from Avilés, Spain. NOTE: The ceremony will take place inside the Lightner Museum lobby if the weather does not cooperate for an outside ceremony.
Visit the Lightner Museum lobby to view a locally commissioned painting on display. With donations from City residents and business owners, the piece of art will be sent as a gift to the people of Avilés.
Saturday, September 7
Founder‘s Day
9:00am Mission Nombre de Dios
Historic Florida Militia will perform a reenactment of the landing of Pedro Menéndez on the riverbank of St. Augustine, immediately followed by Catholic Mass at the Rustic Altar.
First Thanksgiving
11:00am Fountain of Youth
Historic Florida Militia will perform a reenactment of the Frist Thanksgiving celebrated in St. Augustine.
Free Public Concert: Tejedor Bagpipe Band
8:00pm Colonial Oak, St. George Street
Enjoy authentic Spanish bagpipe music under the canopy of oak trees, in the heart of downtown historic St. Augustine.
Sunday, September 8
Interpretive Marker Unveiling
10:00am Avilés Street
The City of St. Augustine will commemorate the 100th Anniversary
with the installation of a historic interpretive marker on Avilés Street.
A permanent marker for the Pedro Menéndez tile mosaic will also be installed.
Avilés Street Festival
12:00pm - 9:00pm Avilés Street
Avilés Street merchants, museums and restaurants will celebrate the occasion with street performers and special programming.
Free Public Concert: Tejedor Bagpipe Band 
2:00pm Plaza de la Constitucion
Enjoy authentic Spanish bagpipe music under the canopy of oak trees.
