Commander Richard Warner began his police career in 1997 with the St Augustine Police Department. In May 2021 he was promoted from the rank of Sergeant to Commander. He will assume the duties of providing leadership and direction to the agency’s Investigations, Patrol, and Special Response Team.
During his career with the department, he has severed as Sergeant of patrol, Honor Guard Team Leader and Special Response Team Leader. Rich’s experience includes Special Response Team operator, Honor Guard, bike patrol, firearms instructor, and field training officer. Rich also oversaw the training function, provided leadership and direction to the agency in relation to high liability topics (firearms, defensive tactics, response to resistance, driving, active shooter). He facilitated advanced training classes, maintained officer’s certifications and supervised the Field Training program for new officers.
Rich was honored in 2006 as the officer of the year.
Rich received an honorable discharge from the United States Army after 10 years of active duty. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Ashworth College and is a graduate from the Florida Leadership Academy Class 39 and Florida Executive Development Seminar 2019, Leadership St. Johns Class of 2022.
