On Monday, June 2, 2025 the City of St. Augustine will launch its annual Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, allowing homeowners located within City limits to request a tree, provided free of charge by the City, to be planted on their private property.
Homeowners can apply online starting Mondy, June 2 until Sunday, August 31, or until quantity limits are met, choosing from nine available tree species, including: Live Oak, Red Cedar, East Palatka Holly, Sand Live Oak, Redbud, Yaupon Holly, Simpson’s Stopper, Winged Elm, Sweetbay Magnolia. City staff will review applications and conduct a site assessment to verify the requested tree fits the available space. Final application selections will be made in September, and trees will be planted January through February. After a tree is planted, it is the responsibility of the property owner to care for and maintain the tree.
Complete information regarding the program, including eligibility criteria and the application form, is available on the City’s website (www.citystaug.com/treecanopy). As part of the application process, residents will be able to verify the location of the property address as being within the City limits.
