Prepare now for floodingNor'easter and King Tide: November 7 - 9, 2022King Tides are the highest predicted high tides of the year, and they often cause nuisance flooding in coastal and low - lying areas, especially Davis Shores. This upcoming King Tide cycle coincides with a nor'easter, so residents should prepare now for flooding. To remain safe during a King Tide, avoid driving through standing water. If necessary to drive through standing water, proceed slowly and with caution to avoid creating a wake. Avoid parking and leaving vehicles in areas prone to flooding. For more information, check out CityStAug Weather Stem and the City's website.

Face of the CityLena Hill, Parking Enforcement Specialist For the week’s #FaceOfTheCity, we want you to meet Lena Hill, Parking Enforcement Specialist! Lena has served the City in this capacity for 27 years.
As a Parking Enforcement Specialist, it is Lena’s responsibility to help keep the City safe by enforcing parking laws, keeping an eye out for meter violations, and working with St. Johns County Sheriffs Office and St. Augustine Police Department to respond to calls about parking concerns. She also conducts surveys to determine parking zones.
“When I first started, we used to travel on foot and issue paper tickets. Now, the City has grown so much that we use cars with cameras and computers,” said Lena. “After all this time, I still love my job. I have the opportunity to be out in the community and interact with residents, visitors, and business owners. I have built meaningful relationships with my community because of these daily interactions, and I couldn’t be happier.
Working for CityStAug is a family affair for Lena – her daughters Crystal and Michelle both work for the City. Outside of work, Lena enjoys spending time with her husband George, daughters, and grandchildren Charlena, Marrissa, Garrett, and Hunter.

New Permitting Portal for ContractorsPlanning and Building Department to hold Demonstration WorkshopsThe City of St. Augustine’s Planning and Building Department will be launching a new portal for permitting that will allow contractors to apply for permits and schedule inspections online. Contractors will be able to see the progress of an application, upload plans and revised plans, and verify the application is in the system. Upon completion of an inspection, contractors will be able to see the results in real time.
So that contractors may learn how to use the new online portal, City staff will offer four training workshops, two on Monday, November 7 and two on Wednesday, November 9 in The Alcazar Room of City Hall, located on the west corridor of the Lightner Museum Courtyard, at 75 King Street.
The workshops will provide the following assistance: 1. Introduction of the software, 2. Demonstration of how to submit a permit application and schedule inspections, and 3. Allow the contractors to set up their online accounts.
All workshops will be held at 9:00am and 1:00pm each day. Walk-ins are welcome, but a reservation would be appreciated. Reserve your spot by emailing the Planning and Building Department. For questions, call the Planning and Building Department at 904.825.1065.
