King Tide AlertOctober 26 - 29, 2022King Tides are the highest predicted high tides of the year, and they often cause nuisance flooding in coastal and low - lying areas. More severe flooding can occur if the King Tide coincides with severe weather conditions (heavy rain, strong winds, big waves). However, sea level rise is causing these tides to happen more frequently, last longer, and extend further inland. To remain safe during a King Tide, avoid driving through standing water. If necessary to drive through standing water, proceed slowly and with caution to avoid creating a wake. Avoid parking and leaving vehicles in areas prone to flooding. For more information, check out CityStAug Weather Stem and the City's website.

Face of the CityTara Bennie, Parking Enforcement Supervisor Happy #MobilityWeek2022! In celebration, we are featuring Tara Bennie, Parking Enforcement Supervisor, as this week’s #FaceOfTheCity!
Tara started her career with the City 21 years ago as a Research Clerk in the Planning and Building Department. Then, she moved to the Customer Service Division. In 2006, Tara started her career in mobility as a Parking Coordinator, and was promoted to the Supervisor position she holds today.
As a Parking Enforcement Supervisor, it’s Tara’s job to act as a liaison between the public and Mobility Team, as well as manage the parking meters and enforcement, including supervising the Parking Enforcement Officers and Meter Technician.
“As a St. Augustine native, I have seen the City grow exponentially,” said Tara. “Hand in hand with this growth is the expansion of the Mobility Team to include Public Works and the Parking Garage. Just about every job in the City has something to do with mobility. I enjoy working with all the different departments, and getting to see the results of our mobility improvements is rewarding!”
Outside of work, Tara loves to spend time with her husband, Kevin, daughters Emma and Reese, siblings, nieces, and nephews!

New Permitting Portal for ContractorsPlanning and Building Department to hold Demonstration WorkshopsThe City of St. Augustine’s Planning and Building Department will be launching a new portal for permitting that will allow contractors to apply for permits and schedule inspections online. Contractors will be able to see the progress of an application, upload plans and revised plans, and verify the application is in the system. Upon completion of an inspection, contractors will be able to see the results in real time.
So that contractors may learn how to use the new online portal, city staff will offer four training workshops, two on Monday, November 7 and two on Wednesday, November 9 in The Alcazar Room of City Hall, located on the west corridor of the Lightner Museum Courtyard, at 75 King Street.
The workshops will provide the following assistance: 1. Introduction of the software, 2. Demonstration of how to submit a permit application and schedule inspections, and 3. Allow the contractors to set up their online accounts.
All workshops will be held at 9:00am and 1:00pm each day. Walk-ins are welcome, but a reservation would be appreciated. Reserve your spot by emailing the Planning and Building Department. For questions, call the Planning and Building Department at 904.825.1065.
