King Tide AlertSeptember 7 - 10, 2022King Tides are the highest predicted high tides of the year, and they often cause nuisance flooding in coastal and low - lying areas. More severe flooding can occur if the King Tide coincides with severe weather conditions (heavy rain, strong winds, big waves). However, sea level rise is causing these tides to happen more frequently, last longer, and extend further inland. To remain safe during a King Tide, avoid driving through standing water. If necessary to drive through standing water, proceed slowly and with caution to avoid creating a wake. Avoid parking and leaving vehicles in areas prone to flooding. For more information, check out CityStAug Weather Stem.

Face of the CityJames Carter, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
James has been with the City since 1996. He started in the Streets Division, then served as a Street Sweeper for 14 years, and was transferred the Wastewater Treatment Plant in 2008. As a Plant Operator, it is James’s job to keep the sludge pump operational. This pump removes solids from the sludge holding tanks and converts it to a material able to be hauled off and repurposed, usually as compost. James keeps the machines up and running by constantly monitoring them and manually making repairs / adjustments, as needed. “My job is different every day, and I love it. I get up in the morning not knowing what to expect and looking forward to coming to work,” said James. “This job, as well as God, have inspired me to become a better person. I recently was saved, turned my life around, and lost 160 pounds by intermittent fasting. I’m happy to say that I am healthy and living my best life!” Outside of work, James loves to spend time with his daughter Mahala, son-in-law Kyle, and grandson, Jacob. James enjoys teaching his family and friends colonial / native crafts, like how to tan hides, preserve meats, survive on wetland plants, and more. He also likes to go exploring on his Craigcat and fossiling.
