On The Break Room:Amy Skinner, Planning and Building Director Recently, the City has proposed an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan to create a new land use category relating to a concept called Mobility Oriented Development (MOD).
Along with this new land use category, a compatible zoning district would be created and inserted into the city's zoning code that would outline how this new land use category can be used. In studio this week is Amy Skinner, the City's Planning and Building Director, to explain in detail what all this means.

Face of the CitySamuel Matthews, Building InspectorAs we are wrapping up our celebration of Building and Code Staff Appreciation Day – we are featuring Samuel Matthews, Building Inspector, as this week’s Face of the City! As a building inspector, Samuel is responsible for inspecting construction projects during multiple phases to ensure that contractors are following building codes. He inspects any project (commercial, municipal, or residential) that requires a permit. Samuel’s credentials include state building and roofing certifications. “I enjoy this position because it is a fun challenge… Being in a historic town, it’s a different style and process of construction,” said Samuel. “I also appreciate how this position allows me to form relationships with my community, which is important to me as a North Florida native.” Outside of work, Samuel loves spending time with his kids – Sadie, Ann Marie, and Hoyt. They enjoy being outside fishing and boating, and traveling.

King Tide AlertSeptember 7 - 10, 2022King Tides are the highest predicted high tides of the year, and they often cause nuisance flooding in coastal and low - lying areas. More severe flooding can occur if the King Tide coincides with severe weather conditions (heavy rain, strong winds, big waves). However, sea level rise is causing these tides to happen more frequently, last longer, and extend further inland. To remain safe during a King Tide, avoid driving through standing water. If necessary to drive through standing water, proceed slowly and with caution to avoid creating a wake. Avoid parking and leaving vehicles in areas prone to flooding. For more information, check out CityStAug Weather Stem.
