Homeowners in City limits invited to apply starting Thursday, June 1

On Thursday, June 1, the City of St. Augustine will launch its third annual Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, allowing homeowners located within City limits to request a tree, provided free of charge by the City, to be planted within the right-of-way adjacent to their property or on private property.

Homeowners can apply online starting June 1 until August 31, or until quantity limits are met, choosing from eight available tree species, including: Live Oak, Red Cedar, East Palatka Holly, Sand Live Oak, Redbud, Yaupon Holly, Simpson’s Stopper, Winged Elm. City staff will review applications and conduct a site assessment to verify the requested tree fits the available space.  Final application selections will be made in September and trees will be planted December through February.  After a tree is planted, it is the responsibility of the property owner to care for and maintain the tree.

Complete information regarding the program, including eligibility criteria and the application form, is available on the City’s website www.citystaug.com/treecanopy. As part of the application process, residents will be able to verify the location of the property address as being within the City limits.

Questions may be directed to Glabra Skipp, Environmental Program Supervisor, at 904.825.1055 ext.4, or via email.
