Homeowners in City limits invited to apply starting Tuesday, June 1

On Tuesday, June 1, the City of St. Augustine will launch its Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, allowing homeowners located within City limits to request a tree, provided free of charge by the City, to be planted within the right-of-way adjacent to their property or on private property.

Homeowners can apply online June 1 through August 31, choosing from nine available tree species, including: Slash Pine, Hackberry / Sugarberry, Live Oak, Flowering Dogwood, East Palatka Holly, Red Cedar, Redbud, Walter’s Viburnum, and Yaupon Holly. City staff will review applications and conduct a site assessment to verify the requested tree fits the available space.  Final application selections will be made in September and trees will be planted November through February. After a tree is planted, it is the responsibility of the property owner to care for and maintain the tree.

Complete information regarding the program, including eligibility criteria and the application form, is available on the City’s website As part of the application process, residents will be able to verify the location of the property address as being within the City limits.

Questions may be directed to Glabra Skipp, Environmental Program Coordinator, at 904.825.1055 ext.2, or via email at
