The State of Florida required the property to have the trash removed as part of the acquisition process. The City and the seller split the costs to hire a contractor to remove trash, particularly large debris. The contractor removed well over 300 cubic yards of trash.
On January 11, 2020, there was an amazing volunteer clean-up day. Over 25 cubic yards of trash were removed by over 250 energetic and happy volunteers.
On Saturday, February 5, 2022, the City and Matanzas Riverkeeper held a Fish Island Community Cleanup. 103 participants were in attendance and removed 3,454 pounds of trash. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!
