Project is expected to be completed in February
A long awaited sidewalk project is now well underway with the commencement of the construction of a sidewalk along South St. between Riberia St. and the Lake Maria Sanchez. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area.
The project was preceded by the installation in November 2017 of a temporary walkway delineated by a painted stripe along the north side of the street where the sidewalk is now being installed. Once the walkway was marked, the city conducted a survey of the public to gage the community’s support of the project.
The permanent sidewalk is expected to be a welcome addition to the heavily traveled street. Until the walkway was first delineated pedestrians and vehicles had to share the roadway since there was no continuous sidewalk along South St., even though it is a primary route for vehicles traveling between Riberia St. and Marine St.
The project is expected to be completed in February 2019.
