Michelle Hill receives 2018 Carol Easterling State Award as the state’s employee of the year
Michelle Hill, a decade-long employee at the City of St. Augustine’s Historic Downtown Parking Facility (HDPF), is the 2018 state winner of the Carol Easterling Award, an annual recognition by the Florida Parking & Transportation Association (FPTA) for front line employees in the parking industry. The announcement was made during the closing session of the FPTA’s annual conference held in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Michelle, who works as a Parking Lead, was initially named one of three state regional winners after being nominated by her supervisor, Sharon Langford, Visitor Services Manager. To be considered for the grand prize, Michelle was required to submit a short video (below) representing a day in her life working at the parking facility. The video and her completed questionnaire were reviewed by the FPTA Board Members and she was selected as the 2018 Grand Prize Winner.
“Your nomination by Sharon Langford expressed your dedication to the City of St. Augustine by keeping a high standard of customer services as a priority,” said Salena Tepas, Carol Easterling Award Committee Chair when announcing Michelle was named one of three regional finalists.
“She shared with us how working most holidays, nights, weekends and the sacrifices you make each day to ensure events and your staff operations run smooth. The Florida Parking and Transportation Association is happy to recognize all of your efforts that may otherwise go unnoticed.”
When visitors uses the HDPF, Michelle or one of her 14 full and part-time co-workers, are likely the first people who meet and greet them upon arrival in St. Augustine, and Michelle welcomes the role as unofficial greeter and information host. The HDPF has served over 4.2 million vehicles since its opening in July 2006.
The FPTA was founded in 1979 to promote and represent the parking industry in the State of Florida. The organization is committed to enhancing the professional image of parking and also serves as a unifying force in promoting state and local legislation. The Carol Easterling Award was established several years ago in honor of a former FPTA Board Member who was a champion for those front line employees whom she felt were the unsung heroes in the parking industry.
