Ceremony includes opportunity to watch valve installation

install02The City of St. Augustine, in partnership with the St. Johns River Water Management District, has scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Davis Shores Tide Check Valve Project.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 16 at 2:00pm. The public is invited to attend. The ceremony will be held at the location of one of the city’s stormwater outfalls, at the intersection of Coquina Ave. and Menendez Rd.

Those attending the event will have the opportunity watch the installation of one of the new valves which will be followed by the brief ribbon cutting ceremony. The area of this installation has experienced some of the area’s worst tidal flooding recently which will be alleviated with the installation of the new valve.

The project will help provide protection from nuisance tidal flooding to the entire Davis Shores community through the installation of these tide check valves. This particular installation is part of a much larger project that will ultimately replace valves around the shoreline of Davis Shores. Then, as funding is secured, installations will continue in other parts of the city. The Davis Shores portion of the project is made possible because of funding through the General Cost Share Program provided by the St. Johns River Water Management District.
