The St. Augustine Police Department

The City of St. Augustine is located on the east coast of the State of Florida in St. Johns County.  St. Augustine is the nation's oldest, continuously occupied European city founded by Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 1565.  It is approximately 35 miles south of Jacksonville and 56 miles north of Daytona Beach.  St. Augustine covers an area of approximately 12.4 square miles and has a population of approximately 14,000 people.

  • The St. Augustine Police Department has 52 full time sworn officers, as well as reserve officers.
  • The St. Augustine Police Department has an annual budget of 6.5 million dollars.
  • The St. Augustine Police Department operates under the direction of the Chief of Police.  The agency is divided into three command units headed by commanders who oversee daily operations of the department

The SAPD strives to demonstrate excellence in professional police service by promoting continuing education for officers and residents, demonstrating the highest ethical and moral standards and actively adapting to ever-changing community needs.
